Fev v Widnes (Championship Round 10): 21 Man Squads

Fev and Widnes have both announced their  squads for Sunday's match. Fev have only named 20 players. That just might be because they were waiting to add Hepi.
The players have been placed into position largely based on last week's line-ups with some guesswork too.

This week's referee: Fev v Widnes (Championship Round 10)

Again! We'd love to know how the criteria the RFL use for referee selection. No complaints, we think he is one of the best.

This Week's Referee: Bradford v Fev (Championship Round 9)

This week we have an Australian referee although he has been in the UK and refereeing RFL matches since 2020. Last week we had a referee who gives less than the average penalties but this week one who gives more than the average. Discipline will be important.

A fevnut Special: Craig Hall's 500

CONGRATULATIONS TO CRAIG HALL!!

At home against Barrow Raiders on April 15th, 2022, Craig Hall passed 500 points for Featherstone Rovers in his 43rd game for Fev. It is an incredible achievement and by some way he is the fastest ever Fev player to get to 500.

In making comparison with other players there are two factors that need to be considered.

First of all, over the years, the number of tries scored in Rugby League has increased considerably giving goal-kickers far more opportunity to score points. We have included Jim Denton in the chart although he is a long way from being amongst the fastest to 500 because his 158 matches to get to 500 illustrates this point even though he was the major Fev points scorer during the time of his career from 1931-1934.

Secondly, before the 1984-1985 season a try was worth only 3 points. In the chart below showing the fastest to 500 points we have adjusted the players stats as if the 4 point try was in existence when all of them were playing.

Here is a full list of Craig Hall's matches with his points total at the end of each match shown in red.

If you look carefully at the match list you will see that despite getting to 500 points in just 43 games, there were 5 matches in which he didn't score any points at all and there were 10 games when he didn't kick any goals. The final chart (below) explains who was kicking the goals in those matches.

This week's referee: Fev v Barrow (Championship Round 8)

Last year this referee took charge of twice as many Fev matches as any other ref. And now Fev get him for the 3rrd time in the last 5 games. Not complaining, though. He doesn't give penalties away for fun - the lowest average penalties per match of all the current refs.
