Head Coach: Simon Grix
Simon Grix is in his first job as a head coach having
taken over from Richard Marshall in April 2019, initially in a caretaker role
but was appointed on a permanent basis a month later.
His playing career began with Halifax (where he was born)
in 2003. He was signed by Warrington in 2005 but missed out on the whole of his
first year because of injury. He returned to Halifax in 2016 both as a player
and as a member of the coaching staff.
Simon was what one would describe as a utility player having
played at fullback, centre, stand-off, scrum-half, second row and loose
forward! He is an Ireland international.
Captain: Brandon Moore
Having started
his career playing 4 games with Castleford in 2015, he then signed for Halifax
in 2016 and has been there ever since. After lockdown last year, Huddersfield
took him on loan.
He has played almost
exclusively as a hooker although he did start the last two games of 2018 at
loose forward.
Star Man: Connor Robinson
Connor Robinson was born and brought up in Hull and
became a member of the Hull KR youth team. He made his first team début for
them in 2014. The following year he was released and joined Halifax. He was
never a first choice then, but his career really took off when he transferred
to York in June 2017.
In 2018 he scored a remarkable 420 points for York (13 tries,
182 goals and 4 drop goals). In a match against West Wales Raiders that year he
set a new York ‘All Time’ record by kicking 21 goals out of 23 attempts.
He re-joined Halifax for 2021
Loans
Halifax have 20 year-old hooker, Amir Bourouh, on
a season long loan from Wigan. Although a Wigan player he is Yorkshire born and
his amateur club was Siddal.
This week they have added Huddersfield Giants halfback, Ollie Russell, on a two week loan.
Currently Halifax have two members of their squad out on
loan to other clubs. Sion Jones (prop) is on a season long loan at Hunslet and
Zack McComb (centre) is on a short-term loan at Dewsbury.
New Signings for 2021
The Fev Connection
Going
much further back in time, Edgar Woolley played for both Featherstone and
Halifax. He began playing for Fev in 1908 when we were still an amateur club.
In one match he scored five tries and Halifax noticed and signed him. He spent
the years from 1910 to 1914 at Fax and then moved to Wakefield, retiring in
1919.
However,
in Fev’s début professional season, a crisis arose in October when all our
regular three-quarters were out injured and Edgar Woolley came out of
retirement to play his only game, as a professional, for Rovers.
