In 1921, September 17th brought Fev’s
second victory in the Northern Rugby League when they beat Keighley 24-5 at
home.
1995 brought a memorable result when
Fev played at home to Wigan and won the match 13-6.
The Fev team were:
Jack Fennell; Mick Clamp, Don
Metcalfe, Mick Hirst, Norman Mitchell; Joe Mullaney, Tommy Smales; Ken Welburn,
Willis Fawley, Fred Hulme, Ron Bradley, Cliff Lambert, Peter Fox.
Ron Bradley scored Rovers only try
but Peter Fox kicked 5 goals.
Keighley came to Post Office Road for
a first round Yorkshire Cup match in 1989. Fev won 86-18 which was a new Rovers
record for points in a match. Mark Knapper also set a new record of 13 goals
kicked and Chris Bibb equalled the club’s try scoring record with six. For
Keighley, winger Own Simpson scored two tries. Although he was in a side that
was well and truly thrashed his performance stood out and Rovers signed him the
following year.
The last time that Fev played on
September 17th was in 2006 when they were against Gateshead Thunder in an NL2
play-off tie. Rovers won 46-18 but then surprisingly were beaten 27-14 by
Swinton at home to thwart hopes of an immediate return to NL1.

Looking at the results on September
17th 2004 brings another reminder of the current plight of Bradford Bulls
because on that day they beat Saint Helens 64-24 at Odsal. On the same day
Leeds beet London Broncos 42-14 at Headingley and Wigan beat Warrington 21-16
at, what was then called, the JJB stadium.
In 2011, in a Super League play-off
match Catalans beat Hull Kingston Rovers 56-6 in Perpignan.
In 2016 there was a big shock in the
League One Promotion Final when Rochdale Hornets travelled to Toulouse and
sprung a surprising 24-22 victory. Toulouse, nevertheless, gained promotion
through the play-offs.
