T'Other Side: Hull FC

FIRST TEAM SQUAD

LAST TIME OUT

Head Coach: Brett Hodgson

2021 sees Brett Hodgson in his first season as a head coach. After retiring in 2013 he took up coaching cosultancy positions with both Widnes Vikings and Hull FC where he acted as a mentor to the then 18 year-old Jamie Shaul. He then became assistant coach at Widnes. In 2018 he returned to Australia to become assistant coach at Wests Tigers.

He played almost exclusively at fullback, playing in the NRL for Western Suburbs, Parramatta and Wests Tigers between 1997 and 2008. In 2009 he was signed by Huddersfield Giants and then moved on to Warrington in 2011. He made representative appearances for New South Wales City and for New South Wales in 'Origin' from 2002 to 2006. During his time at Warrington he was a regular fullback for the 'Exiles' team in matches against England.

Captains: Josh Hodgson, Marc Sneyd and Scott Taylor

Brett Hodgson decided to appoint three co-captains at Hull for 2021.

Danny Houghton has spent his entire career with Hull FC having made his début in 2007. He has played 308 times for Hull and also 3 times for England Knights. On several occasions he has topped the tackle counts in Super League seasons.

Marc Sneyd is one of the very best kickers in Super League, both in terms of goal-kicking and kicking in open play. He made his début with Salford in 2010 and after 4 seasons there he played one season for Castleford before joining Hull in 2015. In his career he has kicked over 750 goals with a success rate of over 78%.

Scott Taylor started with Hull KR in 2009. After four years there he had two seasons at Wigan and one at Salford before being signed by Hull in 2016. He has played for both England Knights and England.

Star Man: Jake Connor

A mercurial talent who, on his day, can be thrilling to watch. He has probably suffered from playing in several different positions in the backs but this year (with Jamie Shaul apparently out for the whole season) he has become the regular fullback for Hull and that should be good for him. His career began with Huddersfield in 2013 and he moved to Hull in 2017. He has played for England Academy, England and Great Britain.

New Signings for 2021

Nowadays most teams seem to recruit many new players each year but despite a new coach coming in Hull have only added two players to their first team squad for 2021 and one of those (Jude Ferreira, who is yet to make his début) is a promotion from their academy.

Brett Hodgson has brought Aussie, Josh Reynolds, with him from Wests Tigers. He made 160 appearances in the NRL for Wests and Canterbury Bulldogs primarily as a halfback but also occasionally at hooker.

The Fev connection

There are many players over the years who have been at both Fev and Hull. But at the moment there are no ex Fev players at Hull and the only one member of Fev's current squad who has played for Hull.

It was rather different at Wembley in 1983 when the Hull team included Steve Evans, Keith Bridges and Charlie Stone.
