ALL THE ROVERS STAND-OFFS

THE ROVERS STAND-OFFS
Here is a list of everyone who has
ever played at stand-off for the Rovers from the beginning of our professional
era in 1921 up until the end of last season (2018). They are listed in the
order of appearances in the starting line-up as a stand-off.
There are just nine players who have
made more than 100 appearances at 6 and Joe Mullaney is way ahead with 304
appearances at stand-off out of his total of 319 which is near to twice as many
as Jimmy Williams who is in second place with 168. Andy Kain is the only one of
the nine who played in the ‘summer era’. John Newlove and Mike Smith feature
for the second week running having also been in the top group amongst centres.
The very large number who only played
one or two games at stand-off includes quite a few who only ever played that many
games for Rovers first team but it also includes several who made the odd
appearance at stand-off playing out of their usual position. In that category
are players such as Harold Box (usually fullback), Liam Finn (usually
scrumhalf) and Jamie Stokes (usually winger).
