A fevnut special: Fev's records and how they progressed through our history

fevnut is often asked questions like 'What is the Rovers record for Points in a Match?' or 'What is the most Tries a Fev player has scored in a season?'.

So, in celebration of our centenary and Gareth Gale getting onto the 'Board of Honour' with his 6 Tries in Match, we have put together the player career, season and match records.

The current records are shown at the top of the each category in navy, bold font, but the charts also show who previously held the record over the past 100 years.

Some of these records will probably never be beaten. A good example is Steve Quinn's records for Career Points and Career Goals which are so far ahead of the previous records that it is hard to imagine them being surpassed.

Another record that is unlikely to be beaten is Cyril Woolford's record for Appearances in a Season - we just don't play so many games nowadays. In the 1959-60 season Fev played 47 games which was the highest number ever. In the final month of that season Fev played nine games and Cyril played in all nine! The only game he missed was a very significant one when Fev beat Australia 23-15. We believe the reason Cyril Woolford missed the Australia match was because he was playing for Yorkshire!

T'Other Side: London Broncos

New Signings for 2021

Head Coach: Danny Ward

After three years as head coach at London Broncos, Andrew Henderson moved on to become the assistant coach at Warrington Wolves and Danny Ward took over as head coach in 2018. He had been working as assistant since 2015 and before that he spent two years coaching the Broncos U19 team.

This is his first head coach position and in his first year he guided Broncos to promotion to Super League.

In his playing career he was a prop forward and made his début at Leeds Rhinos in 1999. He stayed at the Rhinos until joining Castleford for one season in 2006. That was followed by one year at Hull Kingston Rovers before moving to London Broncos (then Harlequins RL) in 2008. He retired in 2011. In 2004 he made one substitute for Great Britain against New Zealand in that year’s Tri-Nations competition.

Captain: Will Lovell

Jay Pitts was the Broncos captain in 2018 and 2019 but he moved on to Wakefield Trinity and Will Lovell took over. Will was born in Northampton and he has spent his entire playing career with London Broncos, making his début in 2012. He has also played for London Skolars on dual reg in the four years 2013 - 2016.

He was primarily a second rower although he has mostly played at centre this season.

Star Man: Chris Hankinson

Chris Hankinson is a registered Wigan Warriors player but is on a season long loan with London Broncos. He made his professional début with Leigh in 2014 and then spent the next two at Barrow. In 2017 he was signed by Swinton and his impressive performances there led Wigan to sign him in July 2018. In 2019 he went back to Swinton to play 8 games on dual registration.

While he was at Barrow he played for a Cumbria Select team against Scotland.

He is an accomplished goal-kicker and so far this year he has kicked 47 goals for London with a very high, 87%, success rate as well as scoring 5 tries.

Loan signings

Broncos have both Chris Hankinson (Wigan) and Ed Chamberlain (Salford) on season long loans. As has become traditional 5 younger members of the Broncos squad have played for London Skolars on loan this season.

The Fev connection

There are just three pre ‘Summer Era’ Fev players who have also played for Broncos: Brett Daunt and John Crossley had played for Fulham (Broncos original name) before Fev signed them.

Neil Tuffs was signed by Fulham from Fev for their inaugural season in 1980-81.

Past Matches against London Broncos

The history of matches between the clubs only dates back to 1981. London Broncos were originally known as Fulham and they subsequently became London Crusaders, then London Broncos. They linked up with Harlequins RU and became Harlequins RL but reverted to being London Broncos in 2012.

This week's referee: Fev v London Broncos

A referee who first took charge of a Fev match in 2016 and then did four of our matches in 2017. Since then we have had him less frequently because he usually does Super League games. Last time he took charge of a Fev match was our excellent win against London Broncos last year. A good omen?

Fev v Newcastle: Teams and Scorers

Fev record extended further in this match!

New All Time Record: The best start ever to a League campaign. This makes it now 10 successive wins.

Fev v Newcastle: 21 Man Squads

Fev and Newcastle have now both announced their  Squads. Fev's includes Junior Moors but he is in the Combined Nations All Stars squad for the match on Friday. Newcastle have only named 20 and that includes some academy players. Also in the Newcastle squad is Kyle Trout who they have just signed from Limoux after the French season finished.

We have placed the players into positions with guess work, but based on the line-up for previous matches.

This week's referee: Fev v Newcastle

A referee who has been in charge of 4 previous Fev matches but not since 2018. Coming from Dewsbury let's hope he doesn't take it out on us because of what we did to his local team last week!

Our players need to be careful because his average of penalties per match is significantly higher than most but (so far) he has never shown a card to a Rovers player. Let's hope we can say the same after the match.
