T'Other Side: Halifax Panthers

FIRST TEAM SQUAD

LAST TIME OUT

2021 MATCHES

Head Coach: Simon Grix

Simon Grix is in his first job as a head coach having taken over from Richard Marshall in April 2019, initially in a caretaker role but was appointed on a permanent basis a month later.

His playing career began with Halifax (where he was born) in 2003. He was signed by Warrington in 2005 but missed out on the whole of his first year because of injury. He returned to Halifax in 2016 both as a player and as a member of the coaching staff.

Simon was what one would describe as a utility player having played at fullback, centre, stand-off, scrum-half, second row and loose forward! He is an Ireland international.

Captain: Brandon Moore

Having started his career playing 4 games with Castleford in 2015, he then signed for Halifax in 2016 and has been there ever since. After lockdown last year, Huddersfield took him on loan.

He has played almost exclusively as a hooker although he did start the last two games of 2018 at loose forward.

Star Man: Liam Harris

Liam Harris was born in Hull and made his professional début with Hull Kingston Rovers in 2017, a year that also saw him play for York on dual reg.

In 2018 he joined Doncaster but was then signed by Hull FC in May although he then went back to play for Doncaster on dual reg.

In 2019 he had a loan spell with York.

He was signed by Halifax before the start of the current season.

Loans

Halifax do not appear to currently have any loan players although Sion Jones is out on loan with Hunslet and Zack McComb had a short loan spell with Dewsbury in May.

The Fev Connection

Going much further back in time, Edgar Woolley played for both Featherstone and Halifax. He began playing for Fev in 1908 when we were still an amateur club. In one match he scored five tries and Halifax noticed and signed him. He spent the years from 1910 to 1914 at Fax and then moved to Wakefield, retiring in 1919.

However, in Fev’s début professional season a crisis arose in October when all our regular three-quarters were out injured and Edgar Woolley came out of retirement to play his only game, as a professional, for Rovers.
