T'Other Side: Barrow Raiders

FIRST TEAM SQUAD

LAST TIME OUT

THIS SEASON'S MATCHES

Head Coach: Paul Crarey

Paul Crarey is very much a Barrow man. He was born there and most of his playing career has been at Barrow. As a player he was a hooker who played for Barrow 172 times between 1987 and 1995. He did also play for Whitehaven, Carlisle and at representative level for Cumbria.

He became the Barrow Head Coach in 2006 and 2007. He then moved to Whitehaven at the beginning of 2008 but left after a few months and spent a long period coaching in the amateur game including becoming coach of the BARLA Great Britain Lions.

He returned to the Head Coach position at Barrow in 2015 and has been there ever since during which time he has taken them to promotion from League One to the Championship twice. He has also coached the Cumbria team.

Captain: Jarrad Stack

Jarrad Stack is an Australian who came through the junior set-up at Melbourne Storm before moving to England to join Workington at the age of 21 in 2009. After eight seasons there he moved to Barrow in 2017 where he has been ever since.

He is primarily a second rower but he can also play at loose forward and centre.

Loan signings

Currently on loan at Barrow is Matty Costello (Salford),

The Fev connection

In 2013 Ben played 6 games for Barrow at the end of the season on loan from Featherstone.

Amongst the few former Featherstone players from before the Summer Era who also played for Barrow are Albany Longley and Tommy Smales.

That is Tommy Smales, the loose forward (1965-1969), not the scrumhalf. Although he came from Sharlston, his first professional club was Wigan and then he moved on to Barrow (1960-65) before returning 'home'. He was a member of Fev's 1967 Challenge Cup winning team and he scored a try and kicked 3 goals in Fev's win against...Barrow!

Albany Longley was a Fev player from 1938 to 1946 and he returned briefly in 1951 before retiring. He was a winger, scoring 76 tries in 157 appearances. One of his tries was in the Yorkshire Cup Final against Wakefield Trinity in 1940 which Fev won 12-9 and was our first ever trophy in a professional competition. He played for Barrow from 1949-1951.
