Match 22: Swinton Lions (Home)
fevnut's musings
Progress: It
didn’t look like it
For fevnut,
the challenge cup match against Leeds Rhinos was the most important match of
the year so far. That’s not because we think the Challenge Cup is more
important than the league competition.
What Fev
fans are crying out for is that we make progress towards the ultimate aim of
getting Rovers back to where we all believe they belong - In the top
competition of professional rugby league in Europe. The debacle of the
Qualifiers last year showed that we have a long way to go in that regard.
To have any
hope of doing that we really do need to show that we can make a decent fist of
taking on Super League teams. Sadly last week’s match showed no signs of that
sort of progress.
It looks
likely that we will make it in to the Qualifiers again this year and I want to
look forward with happy anticipation to those seven matches but losing 58-0
against Leeds doesn’t help!
The team
selection almost looked like getting excuses in for a heavy defeat early. But
that is sad because a match against a Leeds team in good form should have been
a golden opportunity to assess where we are and what needs to be done.

We would
like to draw your attention to the open letter sent to Nigel Wood about the
pathetic farce that appeared on the RFL website as part of their report on our
recent match at Odsal.
The letter
can be read here: http://fevblog452.blogspot.co.uk/2017/06/an-open-letter-to-nigel-wood.html
We have now
had a reply which is utterly inadequate and highly complacent.
“The
Kingstone Press Championship/League One stats and reports published online are
supplied by the Press Association. We are aware of a small number of recent
instances where the information posted on rugby-league.com has been inaccurate.
We understand that this is frustrating to supporters of clubs involved and with
that in mind we are continuing to work hard alongside the Press Association to
ensure future reporting is of a more accurate nature.
Apologies
for any inconvenience caused and we hope you can continue to enjoy the
remainder of an exciting 2017 season.”
It really is
about time that they got people who know something about Rugby League to work
with!
