Rugby League

Only two previous Fev matches have taken place on June 11th

In the Northern Ford Premiership in 2000 they beat York Wasps 56-12 at home.

The team that day was:

Michael Rhodes; Jamie Stokes, Martin Law, Chris Spurr, Ian Thompson; Andy Bastow, Paddy Handley; Stuart Dickens, Richard Chapman, Rhys Jones-Orris, Danny Evans, Neil Lowe, Matt Lambert.  Subs: Matt Bramald, Jamie Coventry, Andy Heptinstall, Craig Booth


The Fev tries were scored by Michael Rhodes, Jamie Stokes, Chris Spurr, Ian Thompson, Andy Bastow (2), Stuart Dickens, Richard Chapman and Danny Evans (2). Stuart Dickens kicked 5 goals and Craig Booth 3.

League Express named Danny Evans as Man of the Match.


One of the York subs that day was Paul Darley who became a Fev player the year after.


The other game that Rovers played on June 11th was a 28-26 defeat away at Workington in a 2006 match in National League 2.

On the same day as Fev were beating York in 2000, also in the NFP, there was a South Yorkshire derby with Doncaster Dragons defeating Sheffield Eagles 29-8.

In 2006 while Fev were losing to Workington Dewsbury Rams inflicted a 60-0 thrashing of London Skolars.

In 2015, in a sign of things to come, Castleford Tigers went to Headingley for a SL tie and beat Leeds Rhinos 31-24.

On the international scene France and Australia have met 4 times on June 11th and all the matches have been in Sydney. In 1951 the French won 26-15 and they did it again in 1955, this time winning 8-5. Then in 1960 they drew 8-8 and in 1977 the Aussies won 21-9 in a World Cup match.



In 1988, in the first of an Ashes series in Australia, Great Britain lost 17-6 in Sydney. Later, the Australians won the second test in Brisbane, but GB won the third test which was also designated as a World Cup match.
